1950 Cadillac Series 60 Special Fleetwood
Description
This 1950 Cadillac Series 60 Special Fleetwood sedan is a project car finished in black, reportedly over its original paint code 1, with evidence of an older repaint and classic postwar Cadillac styling throughout. Exterior highlights include the single-piece curved windshield, larger model-year grille, revised rear styling, vertical chrome quarter-panel trim, a model-specific decklid, and black-painted steel wheels with chrome sombrero-style hubcaps wrapped in whitewall bias-ply tires. Riding on Cadillac’s prestigious 130-inch wheelbase, this long-body Fleetwood carries the formal presence and luxury proportions that made the 60 Special one of the most desirable American sedans of its era. It is also noted to have won an award at the 1998 Dallas Concours d’Elegance before the dealer acquired it in 2025.
The 331ci V8, rated at 160 horsepower and fitted with a two-barrel carburetor and oil-bath air cleaner, remains with the car, though it is incomplete and currently missing items including the radiator, water pump, pulley, fan, hoses, and belts. The Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission is still in place, but hydraulic drum brakes and power windows are currently non-functional. Rust is noted in the spare tire well, though no catastrophic structural damage has been reported, making this a solid foundation for a restoration-minded buyer seeking a worthwhile Cadillac project.
Inside, tan tufted broadcloth covers the front and rear bench seats, while the cabin retains period features such as an AM radio, heater, clock, robe bar, and rear armrest. The interior shows tears, holes, and age-related imperfections consistent with project status, but much of the original character remains intact. Overall, this is a desirable project-grade survivor of the long-wheelbase 60 Special Fleetwood, one of only 13,755 produced, and an appealing restoration candidate for enthusiasts who appreciate authentic early postwar American luxury and Cadillac prestige.
